I hope this message finds you well as we head into November. Recently, someone shared with me how much they wish they had what we have, commenting on how nice it must be to inherit land like ours. While I wholeheartedly agree that we are blessed to raise our family in a farm setting and have access to nutrient-dense foods right outside our door, I want to share a little about our journey.
We didn’t inherit this land; it has been a labor of love that took well over a decade of saving and searching, many prayers and tears when past properties didn’t work out, and long hours of hard work and penny-pinching while raising a young family. It wasn’t until much later that we were finally taken seriously by lenders. Since purchasing our farm, there have been expensive mistakes along the way (I now fully understand that farming blunders often add a few zeros to the cost). We’ve invested our life savings into this dream without knowing for sure where it would take us. It has been a challenging process, and yet I am incredibly grateful for it.
Throughout this journey, one great comfort has remained: we already have a far better inheritance—our Christian faith, passed down through faithful generations before us. This faith is the foundation of our values and the purpose behind our work. Our farm takes its namesake from the hymn “God’s Word is Our Great Heritage,” reminding us of the blessings we have freely received from our loving God and the responsibilities we carry forward. This heritage guides us as we strive to cultivate not just food, but a loving and supportive community filled with the joy of Christ and the hope of salvation.
We love what we do, and we are incredibly appreciative of each and every one of you who invests in quality food and trusts us as your farmers. Without your support, this journey wouldn’t be sustainable. Your commitment helps cover feed bills, mortgages, equipment rentals, utilities for our home, and it allows us to send our kids to Christian schools—thank you for making all of this possible!
I wholeheartedly believe in the potential of dreams and hard work to lead to real, tangible outcomes – a look out my window is encouragement there! Many of you have shared your aspirations—whether it’s moving to the country, owning a milk cow (I love this one!), taking better care of your body, learning a new skill, finding healing, or making a meaningful impact on your family in unique ways. I want to encourage you: these dreams are possible! Don’t let your circumstances define what you think you can or cannot do. It’s your vision, determination, and faith that pave the way forward.
And take comfort in this along the way: God works all things—both good and bad—ultimately for the spiritual good of His people. This doesn’t mean everything will be easy or turn out as we want in this life, but it does mean that God is in control, using every situation for our eternal good, shaping our lives according to His purpose. Whether in trials, struggles, or joys, these experiences strengthen our faith and deepen our reliance on Him.
Thank you for being part of our farm family.
