Weekly yogurt making – this has been one of our favorite treats we’ve started making since milking our own family cows. And it is super easy to make if you have an InstaPot!
Fill your pot to the max fill line with raw milk (I skim the cream first) and hit the “Yogurt > Boil” button. This heats up the milk. Then I take off the cover and allow it to cool down to 105-115 degrees, checking with a kitchen thermometer. It usually takes about 30 minutes to cool in our house, but you can get it to drop quicker by placing your pot in the sink with cold water and ice.
Once at the correct temperature I add 1/4 cup of plain, whole milk yogurt with ACTIVE cultures (we like Dannon, must be plain and not sweetened). Then on the InstaPot you hit the “Yogurt > 10:30” button and that is it! I like the longer setting because it makes for a thicker yogurt. I usually start this process in the evening around 9:00 pm, meaning the yogurt cultures overnight (10 and a half hours) and is ready to go the next morning.
Once complete we put it into container and flavor with fruit. The kids do like a little sugar added, but I enjoy mine plain. Yum! It also makes really good frozen yogurt pops.
This week we made Strawberry, Black Cherry, and Coconut.
