What a magical world we live in! This past week has reminded me of that over and over again.
We’ve welcomed several new calves to Great Heritage Farm, including sweet Rosie’s calf! New life always swells up awe in me. Wobbly legs that can stand within an hour of birth, curious eyes, and tiny ears & noses—it never gets old.
One evening last week, after the day’s projects were cut off by night, my daughter Natalie and I did something we’ve come to love this time of year. Around 10:00 p.m. we headed out for a walk down our gravel road. Summer days are long, and some of our best conversations happen after sunset.
As we walked, I glanced over toward our pastures. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Thousands upon thousands of fireflies drifted through the tall grasses. Tiny green lights blinked on and off in no pattern I could understand, dancing across the fields like living stars. To my left stood a cornfield—quiet, dark, and still. To my right the pasture shimmered with life. It truly took my breath away.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” — Psalm 19:1
God didn’t have to create fireflies.
He didn’t have to make sunsets blush pink or calves leap through fresh pasture or wildflowers bloom along a gravel road.
Yet He did.
Sometimes I think we rush through life so quickly that we miss these unexpected gifts—little reminders that we live in a world filled with beauty, creativity, and delight. The fireflies probably don’t make the pasture grow better. But they make me stop, smile, and wonder.
What an amazing gift it is to live in a world where there are surprises like fireflies.
Now for the good news . . . Rosie’s milk is flowing again!
If you’ve been patiently waiting for A2 raw milk, we should have extra available starting this week. Just send me a message, and we’ll find a time to have you out.
I pray wherever you are this week, you find a little bit of God’s wonder waiting for you—whether it’s a field full of fireflies, a songbird on the fence post, or simply the quiet peace of an evening walk.
Gratefully,
Leah
