Hello friends! I am so happy that you’re here and that we’re here together! I’ve been getting so many amazing messages, calls, & emails about how much you are enjoying the farm and our milk, meat & eggs; and that makes me so happy. Thank you!
I’m really enjoying raising our animals the way we do; moving cows and sheep daily to fresh green pasture, watching chickens & ducks free-range after insects, scratching piggies and calling in the brown swiss cows for early morning milking. It’s a lot of work (my walk through thick grass just to get to the sheep in the far field right now is around a mile round trip), but it’s worth it because the animals are so content and healthy, our pastures are literally buzzing with life (so many bees, birds and other insects!) and I get so many great connections with all of you and get to see first-hand how much this work influences the families connected to our farm. Just this past week a milk customer couple stopped me before leaving and asked if they could pray for my husband and I, to keep our family strong in the Lord and for health and growth here on the farm. They prayed right then and there on our driveway – so humbling, and such a good reminder that each of us has the ability to stop in the moment and pray to God for those in our lives.
School starts this week for our oldest two – it is hard to believe I have two kids in high school, how did that happen?! The younger ones all go back the first week of September, so I get to hold onto this summer feeling for a little longer before school and the routine it brings really sets in. Oh and before I forget – Natalie met and exceeded her goal to run 200 + miles this summer! She runs because she loves it now, and is so light on her feet – it is incredible to see our children grow and make dreams happen.
As for farm news – all of the summer pigs went to the locker this month. We pick up our families’ pork next week and I know many of you will be picking your personal pork up early September too. We are really looking forward to a few more summer grill-outs with pork chops! I was asked how to keep pork on the grill from drying out and I can’t say off the top of my head – my husband Benj is the master griller here. I’ll be sure to write down his recipe for juicy marinated pork chops the next time he makes them – he always just seems to wing things with meat so I never know for sure what the process is – so I’ll make a point to document the process and share his recipe with you all then.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read these messages and for all the love and support you’ve shown our family – I am so thankful to be your farmer and hope to see you this fall, my favorite season.
All the best and God Bless!
