Know your farmer. Love your food. Enjoy juicy, flavorful pork raised with care.
At Great Heritage Farm, our pastured pork is more than just meat—it’s a return to real food, real farming, and the way pigs and land were designed to thrive together. Our pigs root, roam, and live outdoors in fresh air and sunshine, just the way nature intended.
Why Pastured Pork?
Pastured pork comes from pigs raised outdoors on pasture, not in confinement. These pigs eat a natural diet of grasses, roots, forage, and grain—and they get to express their natural behaviors like rooting, wallowing, and exploring.
According to Food Animal Concerns Trust (FACT), pastured pork is richer in omega-3 fatty acids, and has higher levels of vitamin D thanks to sun exposure. It’s also more flavorful, more humane, and far better for the environment than conventional pork.
“Choosing pork from pasture-raised pigs supports a healthier environment, safer working conditions, and higher animal welfare standards.” – FACT
What Do You Plant for Your Pigs to Forage?
We carefully plant diverse forages to nourish our pigs and support the health of our land. These plants not only provide excellent nutrition, but also build soil structure, attract beneficial insects, and help us steward creation well.
Our pigs enjoy a rotating salad bar of:
- Field peas
- Clover
- Alfalfa
- Millet
- Oats
- Forage radish
- Forage chicory
Each plant plays a role—some are high in protein, others support gut health, and many bring natural variety to the pigs’ diet that industrial systems simply can’t match.
How We Raise Our Pigs
On our Minnesota farm, our pigs are part of our regenerative system. They help us improve soil health as they turn over the land with their noses. We rotate them through wooded areas and open pastures, giving them constant access to clean water, fresh forage, and plenty of space to move.
We never use growth hormones or routine antibiotics. Instead, we focus on animal wellness, healthy pasture, and a low-stress environment.
Our pigs are:
- Raised outdoors year-round with shelter from wind and weather
- Fed a clean grain ration plus all the grass and forage they desire
- Handled gently and with respect by our family
What Does Pastured Pork Taste Like?
So. Much. Flavor.
Because our pigs are raised slowly and naturally, their meat develops a rich, juicy taste you just don’t get in grocery store pork. It’s perfect for:
- Pulled pork sandwiches
- Thick-cut pork chops
- Roasts with crispy crackling
- Homemade sausage
- Bacon that actually crisps and sizzles!
Our customers often say it’s the best pork they’ve ever tasted—and we agree. Once you’ve had pastured pork, there’s no going back.
