I’ve got to share something beautiful that happened on the farm tonight while it is still dancing in my mind.
It had been one of those days where everything seemed to go sideways—ever had one of those? First, I forgot six gallons of Sunday’s milk in the freezer, and discovered all the jars shattered in the morning. My one milk cow decided to go rogue with the bull and didn’t come in, throwing off the whole day. The grain grinder for our chicken’s feed randomly broke, and just before bed, the dogs alerted us to a jailbreak—our sheep and goats were out!
So, instead of climbing into bed like I had planned, Benjamin and I were out in the cold, trying to round everyone up in the dark. It felt like the day was ending on the same note it started—off track and frustrating.
But then, something unexpected happened. As we worked together in the dark field, I looked up and gasped. “WOW, Benj, LOOK UP!” The sky above us was dancing with the northern lights, a brilliant display of colors right over our heads. We called the kids out, and there we all stood—several of us barefoot in our pajamas, huddled together in awe of the beauty surrounding us. The cold air was crisp, the night sky clear, and in the peak of the aurora, a bright shooting star streaked across the sky. It was breathtaking.
In that moment, all the frustrations of the day melted away. It was as if God was reminding us all to stop, look up, and be present—to notice the beauty He placed right above us, even when everything feels chaotic. It was like His creation sang out, “I am here in the midst of it all. My creation speaks of My glory.”
In life, there’s a lot we can’t control, but moments like these remind us that God is with us, even in the mess.
My encouragement to you today is this: when life feels like it’s throwing curveballs, take a moment to stop and breathe. Look up. Trust that God is with you in the chaos and the calm. There’s beauty right where you are—sometimes, you just need to be still enough to see it.
Let’s face the challenges and beauty of life together—always trusting that God’s got it all in His hands.
In His grace,
Leah
