We just wrapped up an amazing weekend with a round of beef share pick-ups and several new families enjoying the beautiful weather while touring the farm. I love meeting you all face-to-face, especially seeing kids giggle when they’re greeted by our personable dairy goats or exclaim over how soft Garth, our llama, is.
What a hopeful month for food freedom in America – if you have not already heard, Joel Salatin, known for his regenerative farming and right for consumers to buy direct from the farmer advocacy, has accepted a position as an “Advisor to the Secretary” within the USDA. This role brings his “beyond organic” principles to the table concerning federal agricultural policy, potentially making farming regulations more supportive of small, sustainable farms (like us)! If this is news to you, feel free to read more at Homestead Living or Organic Lifestyle Magazine.
As excitement grows around the idea of regenerative farming gaining more attention at the federal level, I want to share an encouraging reminder: real change starts right here with us. While government initiatives can be helpful, it’s the choices we make each day that truly drive change.
When you choose food raised with care for the soil, without the need for pesticides or herbicides, you’re part of a grassroots solution that protects our land, our health, and future generations. Your commitment to wholesome, regeneratively raised food isn’t just an investment in better meals—it’s an investment in healing and stewardship of our land.
Our farm’s journey from conventional practices to fully regenerative farming took years to realize, and we couldn’t have got this far without the steady support of families like yours who share this vision. It’s your choices that keep farms like ours alive, making a real impact on America’s food system.
So here’s a reminder for us all: we don’t have to wait for anyone to fix what’s broken. Each of us has the ability to care for creation and strengthen our communities through the food we choose.
Thank you for being part of our journey. This little farm has grown beyond anything I could have imagined, and we’re so grateful to have you with us every step of the way!
With gratitude and hope,
Leah Matzke
